We are an American Baptist Community with a history of mission, ministry, and fellowship that has guided First Baptist Church for over 137 years. In 1879 the founding families met in homes. Prior to 1900 worship started in a building at Fourth Street and Jefferson in Loveland. As there was no baptistry in the church, members were baptized in the Big Thompson River near the old St. Louis Bridge. In 1904 a new church building was completed at Sixth and Cleveland during the pastorate of Reverend Frank L. Rozelle. Membership grew with the community and in December 1959 the congregation moved to the current building at Sixth and Douglas Street. The Reverend Francis K. Hauseman was the pastor at that time. The sanctuary was completed in March 1965. In honor of the many years of Rev. Hausemans service to our church, Hauseman Hall, our fellowship center, was dedicated in his memory. Following his service to our church has been the pastorates of Rev. Ted Nutting and Rev. Ross Sackman. In 1988 Rev. John B. K. Turnage accepted the call to become our pastor. In these years we have had the pleasure of his family being a central part of our church family.Basic to our belief that Jesus Christ is Lord. To bring this belief to our world, we believe that Jesus Christ calls us to be a mission-minded community. First Baptist Church has always been an integral part of our community responding to the needs of an ever changing and growing population. Our mission field begins with us, our ministry to each other. Fellowship hour following church service, Wednesdays night meals, soup suppers, Bible studies, home groups, bridge club and other small group activities are just a few of the involvements that we have to express this basic mission. Participation in community mission venues such as House of Neighborly Service, Interfaith Hospitality, Food Baskets, etc. offer further service opportunities. Individual members and church teams, supported by the congregation, have traveled to foreign countries such as Chile, Mexico and Nicaragua to bring relief and support their medical, dental, and educational needs. Many opportunities exist within First Baptist to serve one another and to provide loving and compassionate support to each other and our fellow man. We are a fellowship of believers and we welcome all to join our congregation and our missions as we follow Jesus Christ.
