Colorado State Patrol, established in 1935, is a statewide law enforcement agency that is a division of the Department of Public Safety. It enforces laws on more than 8,400 miles of state highways and over 57,000 miles of county roads. The agency investigates and reports traffic crashes, as well as directs, controls and regulates motor vehicle traffic.It inspects vehicles for safety-related equipment violations and vehicles carrying livestock for brand inspection certificates. The agency provides community education and administers safety programs to the public. With a location in Limon, Colo., Colorado State Patrol operates a statewide law enforcement telecommunication system.
