Brighton is a Home Rule Municipality in Adams and Weld counties in the U.S. state of Colorado, and the county seat of Adams County. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the city population was 31,380 in 2008.
Brighton is located at 39°58′27″N 104°48′36″W / 39.97417°N 104.81°W / 39.97417; -104.81 (39.974184, -104.809926). Though it lies somewhat outside of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area , it is often considered a suburb of Denver.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 square miles (44.4 km²), of which, 17.1 square miles (44.2 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.29%) is water.
