About Boulder Ballet School Boulder Ballet School provides quality ballet training for all ages in a uniquely artistic and creative atmosphere and is dedicated to helping students achieve technical excellence while nurturing their individual artistry. As a professional-track ballet school, Boulder Ballet serves students interested in dance as a career as well as those wanting to dance for fun in an atmosphere of excellence. With superb technical and performance abilities, many of our students have earned regional and national honors. The Florence Ruston Award for Overall Excellence in Dance has been awarded three times to Boulder Ballet School students. This award is presented at the annual Denver Ballet Guild Scholarship Competition to only one of the over 250 participants from ballet schools throughout Colorado. Boulder Ballet School students have also won awards at the Youth America Grand Prix, the world's largest youth ballet and contemporary dance competition, including the Grand Prix (highest award) at the Denver regional. To date, five Boulder Ballet School students have been invited to perform at the YAGP finals in New York City along with the finest ballet students from around the world, and Boulder Ballet School's team of teachers has earned the Best Teacher Award at the Denver regional. Boulder Ballet School alumni have gone on to dance with renowned companies such as American Ballet Theater, American Repertory Ballet, Ballet British Columbia, Colorado Ballet, Eugene Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Mark Morris Dance Group, Miami City Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theater, Norwegian National Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet and San Francisco Ballet Boulder Ballet School evolved from the Ballet Arts Studio, founded almost 40 years ago by Barbara Demaree and Larry Boyette. Boulder Ballet currently occupies three spacious studios, a costume shop and offices at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Under the direction of Ana Claire, the ballet school has tripled in size and is now home to a faculty featuring artists with international performing and teaching experience. The ballet curriculum is enhanced with classes in modern dance, character dance, and physical theater, enabling students of Boulder Ballet School to become artists who are versatile and expressive, as well as technically proficient. Boulder Ballet School has the largest dance program for boys in the area, including Boyz Dance, a unique mix of dance, mime and juggling, and Boys Ballet, which focuses specifically on the male classical technique. Pas de deux (partnering) class is offered in the pre-professional curriculum. Students of Boulder Ballet School have numerous performing opportunities, including Boulder Ballet productions such as The Nutcracker (by audition), and school productions such as the annual Student Choreographers Showcase, the End of Year Showcase, and Storybook Ballet (a unique opportunity for students to appear in a full ballet production including original, commissioned music, costumes, scenery, and choreography). Past Storybook Ballet productions include The Little Prince, The Emperor's Really New Clothes, Josefina's Story, Persephone, Winter Flower, The Little Match Girl, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Pepito's Story, C'est La Vie, Mary Poppins, and Peter Pan. Boulder Ballet's Apprentice Program provides selected advanced level students with performing opportunities in company productions, partial scholarships, and discounted pointe shoes and dancewear through our sponsor Boulder Body Wear.
