Assistance League of Colorado Springs, a chapter of Assistance League, is a nonprofit organization of volunteers committed to serving community needs in Colorado Springs, Colo. In addition to operating the Bargain Box thrift store, the group funds scholarships, clothing drives and book drives among other initiatives in the area. Assistance League was the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization founded in the Western United States to utilize volunteers to help those less fortunate. With approximately 24,000 members in 115 chapters throughout the country, Assistance League volunteers work more than 2 million hours each year to address the emotional and physical needs of children and adults of all ages through philanthropic projects. The organization was founded in 1894.
