History
A few caring individuals, including our director, Jean Ausenbaugh, who were volunteering at the large local shelter were saddened by the number of adoptable pets that were being put down due to lack of space, curable illnesses and injuries and being over the age of 6 years old. They started Angels with Paws in it's small, funny building at 2540 Youngfield (formerly a fast food restaurant) to provide a safe, loving place where these animals could get the care and treatment they needed and to find homes for them. Since opening with the help of donations, volunteers, fosters and a few of the local Pet stores, they have saved over 5,000 lives (mostly cats, but many dogs as well) which is amazing when you consider our building only houses around 50 or so cats. They also promote spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership.
Specialties
Since 2003, Angels with Paws Cat Rescue & Adoption, a Non-profit 501(c)(3) Public Charity, Limited Intake Organization (we do not euthanize to create space, but only when an animal is suffering and there is nothing more we can do) has been serving the greater Metro area and beyond. As space is available, we take in homeless cats (and a few dogs via fosters), many of which are abused, tortured, neglected, and ill and provide humane care and medical treatment. We operate a mostly cage-free Cat Adoption and Rescue Shelter in Lakewood, Colorado. We also help to educate the public by promoting spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership.
