Established in 1974 by Federico Faggin, the inventor of one of the first microprocessors, ZiLOG builds semiconductor products. The company is the inventor of the award-winning Z80 and Z8 microchip architectures that have been embedded in more than 1 billion end-use devices worldwide. Within the five product segments of the semiconductor market, which include micro-logic, other logic, memory, analog and discrete devices, ZiLOG 's products are focused primarily in the micrologic device segment. The company designs, manufactures and markets both general purpose and application-specific standard products. Most of its products focus on micrologic devices used in embedded control, primarily eight-bit microcontrollers. ZiLOG supplies products to a variety of industries, including consumer electronics and appliances, building control, factory automation, financial transaction processing, computer peripherals and the automotive aftermarket. ZiLOG is headquartered in San Jose, Calif., and maintains design centers in San Jose, Calif; Meridian, Idaho; Seattle; and Bangalore, India.
