Young Black Scholars is a comprehensive college preparatory program for African American and other minority high school students, supported and operated by the 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, Inc. Since 1986, the program has assisted over 21,000 students in realizing their dreams of attending college through workshops, programs, seminars, and conferences. With a network of over 170 high schools and 1,000 students in grades nine through 12, YBS provides opportunities for success, inspiring future generations and enhancing home communities.
YBS is a rigorous and committed program that encourages academic excellence, learning, and becoming optimal learners. It is not a school or a quick fix, but rather a solution to address the alarming number of African American students who did not meet the University of California school system entrance requirements. By providing academic workshops, enrichment activities, and support services, YBS has helped more than 70 students meet or exceed national standards for college admissions upon high school graduation.
