History
I began my midwifery practice in San Francisco in 1986. I trained in El Paso, Texas and received my original license to practice from New Mexico. When I arrived in San Francisco, I became very involved in midwifery politics and helped to write and pass new legislation in 1994 that created the category of licensed provider in California - the California Licensed Midwife. I have been practicing in San Francisco since 1986. Although in the beginning I traveled all over the Bay Area, now I only do homebirths in San Francisco, and south of San Francisco to the airport. I have been to over 1500 births, most of which have been homebirths. Over the years, I have transferred women to all of the San Francisco hospitals and thus, have created good relationships with many Bay area doctors and OB units. I also traveled to Haiti 5 times to train midwifery students there. I have been a speaker at UCSF, conferences, UC Berkeley, and SF Waldorf School.
