Stanislaus National Forest is spread over an area of more than 890,000 acres. It offers a range of recreational opportunities, such as camping, hiking, riding, fishing, hunting, boating and biking. The forest serves as a habitat for various bird, plant, animal and fish species. Established in 1897, Stanislaus National Forest features rivers, mountains, lakes, streams, watersheds and campgrounds. The US Forest Service maintains a location in Sonora, Calif., and produces timber and other wood products. It provides maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. Additionally, the forest offers various volunteer and employment opportunities. Stanislaus National Forest is a part of the US Forest Service, which is an agency of the Department of Agriculture. The US Forest Service manages public land in more than 150 national forests and over 15 grasslands that encompass an area of nearly 190 million acres. It works in partnership with universities and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
