Notable for its many rare and endangered species, the University of California Botanical Garden is a non-profit research facility that seeks to educate the world on plant biology and help raise awareness and support for the conservation of the environment. More than 13,000 different kinds of plants from around the globe, organized by region and nearly all collected from the wild, fill the 34 acres of the UC Botanical Garden.
Parking and public transportation at the University of California Botanical Garden
With only one small lot directly across the street from the facility, parking can be a bit of challenge. It also costs $1 per hour. If you don't want to worry about parking the garden has a bus stop serviced by the Bear Transit shuttle on the H Line.
Best and worst time to go to the University of California Botanical Garden
The garden recommends that first-time visitors take a tour led by their docents. Docent tours are free with general admission and are available to the public at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday year-round. Different plants bloom at different times of the year, so you may want to do a little research before visiting. You wouldn't want to visit in the winter if you're eager to see spring flowers.
Admission to the University of California Botanical Garden
Prices vary based on age and range from $2 (children between the ages of 5 and 12) to $10 (adults over 18). The first Wednesday of each month features free admission, but the garden asks that large groups refrain from visiting on those days in order to lessen the impact on plant life. Check the UC Botanical Garden website for specific prices.
