The United States Coast Guard Halibut station is home to the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Halibut. The Halibut was built in Lockport, La., and commissioned in April 2002. The station's chief responsibilities are search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and homeland security. The Halibut station is responsible for patrolling 300 miles of coast from Dana Point to Morro Bay and provides security for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
