Founded in 1986, Ujima Family Recovery Services is a nonprofit agency that offers services for alcoholism, drug addiction and behavioral health problems. It has received the Contra Costa County Children & Families Policy Forum's Honor Roll Award and the Substance Abuse Advisory Board's The People Who Make a Difference Award. The agency administers various programs that include alcohol and drug education, parent education, peer mentoring and therapeutic child care, as well as serves pregnant women, mothers and infants. Ujima Family Recovery Services organizes the Children's Recovery and Family Education Program, which includes prevention program that provides information related to chemical dependency, feelings, denial and defenses. It also administers a parent education program that includes individual, family and group counseling sessions and workshops.
