Tri-Valley CAREs (Communities Against a Radioactive Environment) was founded in 1983 with the purpose of ending nuclear weapons manufacture at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Its scope has broadened to include cleanup of environmental hazards, legal assistance to lab workers, opposition to biological warfare research and a call for nuclear non-proliferation worldwide. The organization's office is in a historic building on Old 1st St. in downtown Livermore, most easily accessed by car from N 1st St.
