Established in 1967, the Office of Traffic Safety designs and administers traffic safety programs to deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting from traffic collisions. It develops a range of public safety, performance measure, occupant protection and traffic engineering programs. The department offers traffic management, communication, safety evaluation, public education, mentoring, training and emergency medical services. It additionally provides surveillance, crash location identification, license revoking, traffic law enforcement and grant funding solutions. The department also offers safety awareness, roadway safety, and alcohol and drug countermeasure programs. The Office of Traffic Safety is funded by the National Highway Safety Act, which provides federal traffic safety funds.
