Behind a discreet storefront on busy Park Street, Toomie's Thai Cuisine offers a quiet, capacious interior with wooden carvings, filigree place mats and other traditional Thai decor. The background music, however, is not restricted to native Thai; you might hear a Beatles tune over the lunch hour.
The menu is extensive -- beef to duck to catfish, larb to noodles, with lots of papaya and pineapple. And you don't have to feel like an offbeat hippie when you ask for brown rice; at Toomie's it's perfectly normal.
Beer and wine are served. Alamedans voted Toomie's the Best Thai Food in Alameda Magazine's poll for 2008.
