The Stanford Daily is Stanford University's newspaper that prints Monday through Friday during the academic year. Run primarily by Stanford undergrads, the paper has been part of the campus since the University was founded in 1892. It originated as The Daily Palo Alto and served the neighboring community as well.
Any registered student is welcome to join the Daily in any capacity; no experience is required. In keeping with journalism trends, The Stanford Daily launched an online site back in 1995 and also offers web-only content. Daily staff are also trying to bolster its multimedia section.
Special publications throughout the year include: The Orientation Issue, Big Game Cardinal Today, The Pre-Commencement Issue and The Commencement Issue. Every year, Stanford's humor magazine, The Chapparal, produces a fake Daily rife with false news to satirize the newspaper.
The newspaper is the primary holding of The Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation. Founded in 1973, The Corporation operates as a California non-profit corporation headed by the paper's editor in chief and business manager.
