History
Our history begins in 1972 where we started as a sober home for alcoholics. This rundown house nestled in the beautiful hills above Desert Hot Springs became known as Lost Heads Ranch. Alcoholics came together and stayed sober using 12-Step principles. In 1984, Rick Mesa, formerly of the Betty Ford Center, was asked to become the director of The Ranch. Mesa encouraged Mrs. Betty Ford, Edwin C. Johnson and The Honorable Leonard K. Firestone to jump on board and financially support the building of new facilities that would house both men and women in their early recovery in a safe and comfortable environment. Many people joined together from all over the valley and donated their money and their labor and literally raised the walls of both the men and the women's dorms in just one weekend. We gratefully acknowledge the funds and the volunteers who contributed to this worthwhile endeavor.
