HistoryFor more than 40 years, the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus has courageously served as the international standard bearer for a powerful and accomplished mix of performances, human rights and community activism, empowerment and inclusiveness. As the first organization of its kind, it is credited with starting the LGBTQ choral movement. It continues to rally and inspire other arts-based community organizations around the world. SFGMC has established a heightened level of performance standards bringing renewed audience and choral industry acclaim. Recent tours, recordings, and outreach programs have broadened its impact and reputation in the community while maintaining its signature blend of humor, personality, and ground-breaking performances. In 2019, a new facility was acquired to provide a permanent home for SFGMC activities, staff and rehearsals. The building will serve as both a San Francisco community resource and the first-ever National LGBTQ Center for the Arts.SpecialtiesEnjoy festive, inspiring and transformational choral experiences throughout the year. Our mainstage concerts are in December, March and June. Other programs include small ensemble performances, master series talks with composers and performers, and collaborations with other local and national arts and LGBTQ community groups.
