California State Teachers Retirement is the second-largest public pension plan and the largest teachers retirement fund in the United States. CalSTRS had a total membership of approximately 775,917 people and assets of $146.8 billion as of August 2006. The company s primary responsibility is to provide retirement-related benefits and services to teachers in public schools from kindergarten through community college. The State Teachers Retirement Board has exclusive control over the investment and administration of the Teachers Retirement Fund.
