The former Sushi Nozawa is located in the small Eureka Mini-Mall on Ventura Boulevard (between Tujunga and Vineland avenues) Studio City. Serving extraordinary sushi every day, the restaurant is considered by many people to easily be the best sushi restaurant in the Valley.
Now called Sugarfish, it was taken over by Tom Nozawa, son of the famed sushi chef. It still has the signature simplified menu, diners choose from three core selections, each called a "trust me," a centuries-old Japanese tradition known as omakase, where the master chef determines the menu. Offering incredible sushi for the purist, as well as good service, décor and a general vibe, the restaurant also serves beverages including sake, beer and wine. Each dish is to be enjoyed with the balance of ingredients based strictly on Nozawa's recipes—he does not honor requests for extra sauces, salt, or additional rice. Legend has it that Charlize Theron among others were kicked out for ordering California rolls, or talking on their cell phones.
