The Student Missionary Union (SMU) in La Mirada, CA is the largest student-led missions organization in the United States, with a staff of 30 students and hundreds of student volunteers. Since 1923, SMU has been a resource for Biola undergraduate students to participate in the Great Commission, focusing on ministry in three primary areas: Biola, the local community, and the nations.
SMU offers opportunities for students from all backgrounds and skillsets to live out the Great Commission through projects in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, as well as global short-term trips and the annual Missions Conference. The organization also seeks to engage in conversations about racial reconciliation and diversity inclusion, recognizing that all students are Image Bearers of God. The ultimate goal of SMU is to motivate and mobilize students to align their lives towards the completion of the Great Commission, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in all that they do.
