The Department of Water Resources, administered by the State of California, operates, constructs and maintains state water projects. The department also provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services. It also assists local water districts with water management and conservation planning, as well as designs plans for future statewide water needs. The Department of Water Resources is also responsible for protection, restoration and enhancement of natural and human environments. It is additionally responsible for protection of lives and infrastructure during dams, floods and droughts, as well as protects watersheds impacted by fire and disasters. In addition, the department supports local planning and integrated regional water management through technical and financial assistance.
