The Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, founded by the Council of Orange, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, is dedicated to ending hunger in Orange County. Since its establishment in 1983, the Food Bank has provided over 272 million pounds of donated and surplus food to more than 340 member charities, which serve the hungry in over 470 locations throughout the county.
With its new facility in Irvine, located on the old El Toro Marine Base, the Food Bank has significantly increased its capacity to meet the needs of Orange County's hungry population, particularly during challenging economic times. As an independent 501c3 corporation, the Food Bank continues to work tirelessly to ensure that individuals and families in need have access to nutritious food, partnering with various organizations such as church pantries, shelters, senior centers, rehabilitation centers, and homes for abused women and children.
