Spiral Gardens is a nonprofit group that fosters urban food security by teaching people to garden and offering them affordable produce and plants. Volunteers also harvest unwanted fruit from the East Bay's countless citrus and nut trees and donate it to Alameda County charities. The nursery and urban farm at Sacramento near Oregon avenues is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am - 5pm. Spiral Gardens also is at the Berkeley Saturday Farmers Market from March through October. Free classes are offered the first Saturday of each month and sometimes more often; check the website for details.
