Located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights and maintains peace and order. It provides online crime statistics and maps, as well as crime reporting applications. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department operates the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), which deals with high-risk and dangerous situations, including barricaded persons, high-risk warrant arrests, explosive devices and heavily armed criminals. In addition, the department has a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations. Established in 1967, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department employs a staff of more than 50 full-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers.
