History
Soon after opening Skills for Success Learning, Carleen worked with a non-reader in high school with Autism. This student could identify letters and letter sounds but became stuck when trying to blend the sounds into a word. Realizing that the abstract concept of blending sounds together was illusive for her student, Carleen devised a way to make the concept of blending more concrete. By using pictures, colors and hand movements, it became easy for her student to understand the new skill of blending. Within a matter a few sessions, this high school was blending and reading unfamiliar words with ease and Solutions for Non-Readers was created. In 2014, Carleen learned that over 80% of struggling students have poor working memories, so she began providing online working memory accommodations and training to further enhance her student's skills.
