History
ShinGrins was developed with the idea in mind to make an improvement on an increasingly growing societal and public health problem. The population is aging, and with aging comes changes in skin and many other conditions that may increase the chances of sustaining a lower extremity skin tear and wound. Quality of life declines with a painful open wound in the lower extremity. The person often needs a professional healthcare provider to clean the wounds, manage and change the dressings, monitor for infection. The slow healing process often creates the need for multiple office visits over long periods of time.
Specialties
ShinGrins are soft, breathable, comfortable, and affordable skin protectors that are designed to be worn on either the lower extremities or the forearms. Many active adults experience skin tears, painful costly wounds, bumps and bruises that often get infected or do not heal. Some of the skin changes that occur normally during the aging process are as follows: Thinning, dry and dehydrated, reduced ability to stretch, reduced ability to fight infection, reduced ability to heal, and reduced ability to regulate temperature. Certain medications such as prednisone, anticoagulants, and medications that impair balance may predispose adults to further trauma. Wounds on the lower extremities of people with diabetes often take many weeks to heal and some may become chronic or infected. Some adults sustain lower extremity wounds by bumping into their own cars or wheelchairs! The best way to manage upper and lower extremity wounds and skin tears is to prevent them in the first place. ShinGrins may help to protect skin, reduce cost, and improve quality of life.
