Qualcomm Stadium is a stadium located in San Diego, California. Qualcomm Stadium currently houses the NFL team the San Diego Chargers and the NCAA team the San Diego State Aztecs. The stadium opened as San Diego Stadium on August 20, 1967 with the construction taking just under two years at a cost of just over $27 million, $186 million in today’s dollars. In 1997 Qualcomm acquired the naming rights to the stadium. The stadium was built to replace the aging Giants Stadium.
The San Diego Chargers have yet to win a Super Bowl Championship and are members of the Western Division of the American Football Conference within the NFL. They are known by their team colors consisting of dark blue, gold, powder blue and white. The current owners of the New York Giants are Alex Spanos and George Pernicano.
The San Diego State Aztecs are members of the Mountain West Conference within the NCAA. They are known by their team colors consisting of red, black and white.
The stadium currently holds 70,561 fans. There are 113 luxury suites with four club-level lounges. Currently, it was the fifteenth largest stadium in the NFL. Additionally it is home to the NCAA’s Holiday Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl.
The majority of tickets for Chargers’ games are sold out and there is an extensive waitlist for season tickets. However, fans can find available individual game tickets at ticket exchanges.
