Scotty’s Castle is a beautiful historic house museum managed and protected by the National Park Service in Death Valley National Park. The best way to experience it is by taking at least one ranger-led tour. The House Tour hears the Welte Mignon theater organ, sees the original owners’ belongs, and hears colorful stories of their time here. (Those stories all revolve around Death Valley Scotty’s mythical gold mine.) The Underground Tour focuses on the technology of the time and demonstrates electrical generation with the Pelton water wheel. The Lower Vine Ranch hike goes to Scotty’s retreat from the Castle.Scotty’s Castle is open every day of the year. Lodging and gasoline are not available, but there is a bookstore and a limited selection of pre-packaged food. Tickets may be purchased on the day of the tour at the Scotty’s Castle Visitor Center. If planning at least one day in advance, you may visit www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 for reservations.
