History
We began as Orange County Teachers Credit Union in 1934--not a good year to start a business, but an appropriate time to help others. Our founders consisted of 126 school employees who pooled $1,200 for the purpose of improving the financial lives of those with the common bond of education. In 2008, we became known as SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. The new name was chosen to represent all the school employees served by our organization and to clearly state our mission: putting the needs of the educational community first. Today, we're the country's largest credit union for school employees. We have over $14 billion in assets, more than 800,000 Members, and more than 45 branches serving the state of California. And with more than 28,000 ATMs shared with other credit unions nationwide through the CO-OP Network, we are truly here to serve.
