Located on Santa Monica College's Main Campus, the Santa Monica Swim Club is operated by the city and, through a joint agreement with the college, is open to the public. Hours for recreational swimming are expanded in the summer; during the fall and spring semesters, SMC relies upon the facility for classes and team practices.
The Santa Monica Swim Club features a flash pool and a fitness pool, both of which are heated and outdoors. The 25-yard, 10-lane flash pool is shallow (2- to 4-feet depths) and averages 84 degrees; the larger, Olympic-size fitness pool has depths from 6.5 to 13 feet and averages 79 degrees. The multilevel facility also has an upper-level community room and sun deck, locker rooms, indoor and outdoor showers, spin dryers and vending machines.
All are required to pay a marginal fee in order to be admitted; financial aid is available for low-income parties. Parking passes are available for those registered in a pool program; parking is first-come, first-served. Walking, biking or taking the Big Blue Bus (lines 7 or 11) is recommended.
Programs include recreational and lap swimming, swim lessons, adult fitness, wet water workout, diving, Sharks swim team, water polo and synchronized swim.
