The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is a state agency that acquires and preserves land in the Santa Monica Mountains, including the Malibu portions and other areas. Through partnerships with other state and private agencies, the SMMC operates various parks created through these acquisitions. Joseph T. Edmiston has served as the SMMC's director since its inception in 1980. The SMMC board meets monthly at various locations. The state agency is headquartered at Ramirez Canyon Park in Malibu.

The Redondo Beach Police Department offers a range of crime prevention and law enforcement services. The department s more than 100 employees serve a population of over 68,000. It is operated by the government of the City of Redondo Beach in California, which works for the welfare of the general public. The Redondo Beach Police Department administers special investigations, juvenile, traffic and crime analysis units. The department s Citizen Police Academy has been in operation since 1994. It administers neighborhood watch program and domestic violence prevention programs. The Redondo Beach Police Department offers emergency assistance services over telephone. In addition, the department provides graffiti removal, patrol and animal care services.
