History
We are the third oldest Humane Society in California and have been in continuous operation since 1887, when the railroad first made it to SB. That same year, David Beck purchased a parcel of land in Goleta for his walnut farm. After bouncing from loaned location to the next, Santa Barbara Humane Society bought the original Beck farmhouse and five acres in 1963. Today, our privately supported non-profit agency has many more buildings than the original Beck Family Farmhouse that houses our administrative department, including our Shelter Office, kennels for adoption and boarding dogs and cats, a Spay/Neuter and Vaccination Clinic and a Humane Education building.
Specialties
We are here to serve the Santa Barbara County in a variety of ways. We have dogs and cats available for adoption. Our veterinary clinic offers low-cost spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea medication, deworming and microchipping. And we offer a selection of positive reinforcement based dog training courses.
