History
Since 1976, Sanctuary Centers has been a hidden gem providing mental health services in Santa Barbara. We began as a single 6-bed facility. Today, we are the only community-based nonprofit in Santa Barbara that uses a continuum of care (or long-term) approach to serving adults with mental illness. We provide unique, comprehensive programs including: residential care, an outpatient center, psychiatry, 38 units of agency-owned and operated low-income housing, drug/alcohol therapy, psychological testing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and vocational/educational training.
Specialties
The mission of Sanctuary Centers of Santa Barbara is to provide a continuum of treatment to adults living with mental illness (seriously disabled) and co-occurring disorders in order to prevent further hospitalization, create opportunities for community reintegration, and extend an on-going safety net to ensure long term remission, while maintaining the highest treatment and professional standards. As such, the primary goal of Sanctuary Centers is to assist individuals living with mental illness to reintegrate back into the community with the independent living skills necessary to once again become viable contributory individuals.
