History
Patty Medina established the SD Heat League in 2010 with only 4 teams. The league started as a Sunday night open gym at a local high school and quickly became the most competitive pick up basketball games in all of San Diego. Patty believed this could be a place for young men and women, current and former basktball athletes, of all San Diego areas to compete . Participants kept suggesting that the open gym should be come a league. So, with all the support, Patty decided it was time to have a shot at directing a league. By the 2012, the league had grown from the original 4 teams to 20 teams. Today the league continues to match up 20 men's and women's teams to battle it out on the hardwood. The SD Heat League's goal was to help young people form meaningful relationships on the court that would spill over into the neighborhood, as well as build an organization that would bring top local high school, college, and pro players back to the community.
