Specialties
The Sacramento Mineral Society (SMS) is a lapidary club located in Sacramento, CA which was organized in 1936 dedicated to increasing interest and knowledge of mineralogy and other geologic sciences, as well as lapidary arts and crafts, and a variety of jewelry arts. To this end we conduct a variety of activities such as educational presentations in our monthly meetings, promoting and organizing field trips (to collect specimens, study geology, as well as learn about minerals as they occur in nature), a club house / lapidary shop run by our members. We provide the Sacramento community a resource by offering on-going education and practice in lapidary techniques and the related arts. Our Annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show attracts vendors from all over the western United States. We also award geological scholarships each year to individuals from local colleges. Members volunteer their time throughout the year for community service-related events, gem shows, and other activities.
