San Francisco Community Alternative Elementary School is a family-involved, child-centered school that has been serving students from diverse backgrounds for over 50 years. With smaller class sizes than typical throughout SFUSD, the school prioritizes personalized relationships between staff, students, and families to meet the needs of its approximately 285 students. Through project-based learning, students engage in interdisciplinary projects that explore themes such as community, the human body, climate earth science, and the physical world design. The school also offers arts instruction, a Playworks program for collaborative play and conflict resolution, a library building, middle school sports, and an after-school program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs.
