Root Park is a lovely place to take a break in downtown San Leandro. The park was deeded to the city in 1917 and renovated in 1996. Numerous benches line a covered colonnade behind a statue dedicated to the city's Portuguese immigrants. The park also showcases three flowerbeds maintained by the San Leandro Dahlia Society. There are steps that provide access to San Leandro Creek, where nature-themed murals brighten the walls of the underpass. There's also a creekside platform with a bench for taking in the scenery. The park has several picnic tables and a drinking fountain.
