History
The Richmond Museum was established in May of 1952 by the Richmond Women's City Club, and became the City's first institution devoted to the preservation of a local history. In 1953 the Richmond Museum Association was incorporated as a nonprofit organization. In 1977 the Museum Association and the City of Richmond established a partnership, with the first paid staff hired that year. The museum is housed in a 1910 Carnegie Library building fully renovated and expanded in 1978. The building houses over 20,000 artifacts, photographs, documents, and various visual materials that represent the history of Richmond and the West County Area.
