History
Poppaea Sabina (AD 30-65) was a Roman empress who used her beauty and intrigue to capture the attention of Nero eventually becoming his wife in AD 62. Poppaea Vineyard LLC came into being during 2009 after a suitable site had been found along the historic Old Julian Highway (the former route of the San Diego to Julian stagecoach) within the Ramona Valley American Viticultural Area (RVVA). This connection is important since the vision for Poppaea Vineyard LLC is of classical Italian-style wines to be experienced in a tasting room with a Roman ambience and outside patios having spectacular views of the valley beyond Ramona to the Pacific.
