Pacifica School District (PSD) employs a "one District, two paths" educational system which allows students to either attend a K-8 school or attend a K-5 school followed by a 6-8 school before moving on to high school and another school district. This is to ensure each student can receive an education that best suits him or her, and each track--each school within PSD, in fact--has a unique focus in its curriculum. There are six schools under the umbrella of PSD, two of which are K-5, one of which is 6-8, and three of which are K-8. The district also runs a home-school program, which allows parents to instruct their children in grades K-8 full-time from home with the support and standards developed by PSD and the California Department of Education. The Linda Mar Educational Center, also run by the PSD, offers specialized support within the district by meeting with home-schooled students and their parents to ensure progress, hosting an independent study program and pre-school, and providing instruction for students diagnosed with autism. The district supports instruction in music, performing and visual arts, and physical education. All 6-8 graders have access to instrumental music instruction supported by the Rob Schneider Music Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the comedian to keep music in Pacifica's middle schools.
