North County Fire Protection District, established in 1949 and a part of Monterey County, offers fire protection and emergency services throughout California, including Castroville, Moss Landing, Oak Hills, Pajaro, Prunedale, Elkhorn, Las Lomas and Royal Oaks. The district protects life, property, and the environment from fire and other natural disasters, such as explosions, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, coastal incidents and hazardous conditions. The services offered by the department include rescue operations, fire code enforcement, life safety regulations, fire cause investigations and safety information. North County Fire Protection District also provides training and educational programs in general safety, emergency response and life saving techniques.
