Founded by Gaspard Weiss and Remsen Bird, Monterey Institute of International Studies has been operational for more than 55 years. Formerly known as the Monterey Institute for Foreign Studies, it is one of the leading educational institutions in Northern California. An affiliate of the Middlebury College, Monterey Institute enrolls more than 2,000 students annually. Located in Monterey, Calif., the college offers various specialized courses in the areas of language education, environmental and cultural studies and international economics. It also offers associate courses in nonproliferation, Asian and terrorism studies, international organizations, development and negotiation, nonprofit management, conflict resolution, and international norms, human rights and justice. Additionally, the college offers several assistance services that include telephone registration, academic and personal counseling, financial aid, international student solutions, re-entry services, sports counseling, disabled students programs, educational assessments, and career and transfer assistance.
