In 1852, at the height of the California Gold Rush, California Stevedore and Ballast Company was conceived by two Danish sea captains in San Francisco by the names of Eschen and Minor. The growth along the West Coast in the late 1800s, led to the formation of a second company called Metropolitan Stevedore Company in 1923. A cargo handler, the company s operations are divided into the categories of bulk, break bulk, cruise, fruit, auto, container, terminal and special cargo. Metropolitan Stevedore Company is headquartered in Wilmington, Calif.
