The Merced County Sheriff is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It maintains a Special Emergency Response Team that deals with dangerous situations, including high-risk warrant arrests and explosive devices, as well as heavily armed criminals and barricaded persons. The Merced County Sheriff also has a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team that specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations.
