History
We began as the Mental Hygiene Committee in 1924, California's first program dedicated to serving children with Mental Health needs, which is still operating today as LA Child Guidance. Over the years we also established Step Up on Second, San Fernando Valley Child Guidance, Oasis House, Project Return Peer Support Network, and Clifford Beers Housing. We continue our work today with innovative service facilities, social service training programs, public policy work, and national advocacy efforts.
Specialties
We serve adults and transition age youth who are dealing with mental health needs and do not have financial resources, including veterans and people who are homeless. We raise awareness about mental illness and work to eradicate the stigma associated with it. We actively change the systems that serve people living with mental illness to help improve treatment, access, and awareness around the country.
