Maywood Farms contributes its share to the 26 million pounds of figs harvested each year in California. The company grows 16 different varieties of figs each year. Each piece of fruit is hand picked by its employees. However, some figs are dried for fig paste to be used in items such as Fig Newtons. Wholesales customers must be listed in either the Blue Book or the Red Book. Maywood offers organic and conventional fresh figs in Black Mission and Kadota varieties. Its package types include 12 one-pint open baskets, UPC coded 12 one-pint clamshells and UPC coded one-pound clamshells. Its regular pack has a minimum two-week shelf life. Maywood ships this pack to chain stores and terminal markets from its headquarters in Corning, Calif. The ripe pack has a five-day shelf life. These packs are preferred by restaurants and specialty markets that cater to customers who demand figs at their peak of flavor.
