The museum collects and displays art, artifacts, and historical materials of the Indians of the San Gorgonio Pass Area, serving as a common meeting ground for Natives and non-Natives to learn about the past.

Malki Museum is renowned for its unique history and commitment to preserving the cultural traditions and history of the Cahuilla Indians and other southern California Indian tribes. In addition to its museum exhibits, Malki also operates an academic publishing press that has printed numerous high-quality books and materials on Native American culture, including the esteemed Journal of California and Great Basin Anthropology.
