Specialties
It is easy to believe that talent and output alone are all creative writers need to succeed. After all, what artist yearns to spend time on the administrative aspects of running a business? None of us do. But let's face it: most creative writing programs do not supply real-world knowledge of what to expect regarding the business end of being a writer. While visual artists have a wide range of titles dealing with the business side of being photographers, painters, or sculptors, I have found no comparable book intended specifically for creative writers. When I was starting out, I searched for such a book for years. In light of the cornucopia of these books for visual artists, I couldn't believe that one for us (creative writers) didn't exist somewhere. I couldn't find one then, and to this day have never found it. It's as though the belief is that only visual artists and performers need business skills to initiate and make headway in their careers. Thus, the focus of this book is not on how to write, but on the fashioning and growth of a writing career: that what-to-do-next stage. My workshops are geared for book for those writers who have completed BFA, MFA, or other creative writing programs, but then wonder,
